How can startups comply with data protection?

How to ensure data protection compliance during the entire lifecycle of a product or service? How to deal with employees’ or customers’ data access requests? How to provide information in a “concise, transparent and easily accessible manner” on a cookie banner half the size of a coaster? How relevant is GDPR compliance for my shareholder-value? These are just a few of the many questions discussed at our event, Legal Basics Part 3: Tackling Data Protection, held on February 6 at Factory Berlin.

Aimed at startups and founders, the Freshfields-led discussion confirmed that data privacy regulations – especially GDPR – are more than ever a hot topic across all organisations and industry sectors. The regulatory framework is highly volatile, and authorities are willing to enforce compliance and impose severe fines in case of any breach.

The intense discussion alternated between high-level explanations and deep-dive insights into specific data protection topics such as consent management, data anonymisation in the light of Big Data, and programmatic advertising. The event enabled privacy experts and professionals:

  • to exchange on all challenges of data protection compliance;
  • to discuss concrete cases and questions, and
  • to get business-oriented answers based on legal and practical experience.

 We are grateful to everyone who attended for their valuable insights and we are looking forward to the next round. If you want to gather information and updates on any further events, subscribe to the Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LinkedIn feed.
